what to expect
During facial fat grafting, patients receive personalized care from Dr. Holland. The procedure is typically done in the office under local anesthesia, ensuring convenience and comfort. Alternatively, it can be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures in the operating room. Different areas of the face, such as the cheeks, temples, and jawline, can be treated based on the patient's specific needs and Dr. Holland's plan. Initially, the face may appear overfilled, but over time, gradual improvements in facial volume and contours occur, leading to the desired result. Regular follow-up appointments with Dr. Holland monitor progress and address concerns, ensuring a satisfying outcome.
things to consider before facial fat grafting:
The discomfort and pain should begin to decrease within 48 hours after the procedure.
After the procedure you will notice some bruising and swelling in the area(s) of injection. This usually peaks within 2-3 days after the procedure. After 72 hours the swelling and bruising rapidly subside. To minimize the swelling, sleep with your head elevated for 4 weeks after surgery.
In the first 2 to 3 weeks after surgery it may seem as if you are too swollen or too much fat has been used. Don't worry this swelling will subside slowly leaving you with a more natural appearance long term.
In 6 months, the transplanted fat has reached its final volume and Dr. Holland to re-access to determine if another procedure is needed.

A fat transfer, also known as fat grafting or fat injection, takes a person's own viable fat cells and injects them into other areas of the body to increase volume. Dr. Holland offers in-office treatments with no anesthesia for parts of the face (cheeks, lips, and chin) and the back of hands. During the procedure, fat must be harvested as to preserve the integrity of the fat cells. Fat will be transferred from areas in which you have excess fat, such as the outer thighs, and then will be injected into areas that may be lacking in volume. These results can be long-lasting, but should not be considered permanent. As you age and lose volume, the fat-grafting procedure may have to be repeated. Results will vary by person.
